Spring Octet Challenge

Experience all four seasons in one during the Otsego Outdoors Spring Octet Challenge. Dress for the weather, expect mud, bring water, take tick precautions, and have fun exploring great trails around Otsego County. Complete eight of the featured activities between March 19 and June 19, 2024 to be listed on the Otsego Outdoors Challenge Roster, and receive an embroidered Spring Octet patch and/or a Spring Octet vinyl sticker (great for water bottles, laptops, etc.).   • Print out the Spring Octet Challenge Log (or use this online version) to keep track of the trails and activities you complete.
  • Before heading out, review these  Spring Hiking Tips from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYDEC). Here’s some information on protecting yourself from ticks
  • You can get credit for attending a featured outdoors event and volunteer opportunities in Otsego County. See our calendar for upcoming events, there’s lots of great events and volunteer activities coming up!
  • There’s also a “Your Choice” option, get credit for any outdoor activity–fishing, paddling, mountain biking, birding, hiking, trail running, cycling, camping, etc.
  • To open participation to all, patches and stickers are free. Donations to support Otsego Outdoors are welcome and appreciated.
  • Return your form to Otsego 2000, PO Box 1130, Cooperstown, NY 13326. You will receive your patch within 3-4 weeks.
  • Instead of mailing the form to us, you can use this online form to let us know you completed the Octet.

A few more things…

  • Make sure you have the right clothing (dress in layers) and gear for the conditions and the weather. Pack water and snacks. Expect mud. Take tick precautions.

  • Record your thoughts and observations of the trails on the registration form, we value your feedback and will use it to help others explore the outdoors.
