ADK hike at Fetterley Forest with botanist

July 23, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Susquehanna Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club hike on Tuesday, July 23rd will be at Fetterley Forest, an Otsego Land Trust property, located on the east side of Canadarago Lake south of Richfield Springs.  We will be joined by Connie Tedesco, a botanist, who will be identifying, hopefully, 10 species of ferns as well as wildflowers in bloom.

The walk in the Forest is just over 1 mile and slightly hilly.  Starting from the corner of Walnut Grove Hill  Rd. and Rose’s Hill Rd. (uphill) will make it about a 2 mi. walk.  If carpooling from Oneonta, meet at the Oneonta Price Chopper at 8:45 am to sign in, leaving at 9:00.  The hike will start at 10:00.  Bring bug spray, water, hat and poles, if desired.

Directions:  The Forest location is 302 Rose’s Hill Rd., Richfield Springs, NY.  From Oneonta – Rt. 28 N toward Cooperstown.  Just past the Ford dealership near Cooperstown, take a left onto Co. Hwy. 26 to Fly Creek, turning left at the light puts you back onto Rt. 28.  Continue to Schuyler Lake, turn right at the light onto Co. Hwy. 22, proceed 3.8 mi., turn right on Walnut Grove Hill Rd. (dirt road) and go .9 mi. to corner of Rose’s Hill Rd. where we will park.  Parking is also available at the Fetterley Forest site if you don’t want to walk the road.  Questions – call Ruth Schaeffer at 988-7036 or e-mail rwschaeffer88@yahoo.com
