Summer Octet Challenge

The Summer Octet Challenge runs from June 21 to September 21. Complete eight of the featured activities to receive an embroidered Summer Octet Patch and/or vinyl sticker (great for water bottles!) and a listing on the Otsego Octet Challenge Roster. Scroll down to see the featured activities.

Print out the Summer Octet Challenge log (or use this online version) to keep track of the trails and activities you complete. See below for links to more information on each destination.

  • Along with the featured trails, you can get credit for attending an outdoor event or volunteering in Otsego County. See our calendar for upcoming events.
  • There’s also a “Your Choice” option, get credit for any outdoor activity–fishing, paddling, mountain biking, birding, hiking, trail running, cycling, camping, berry picking, etc.
  • Before heading out, review these Recreation Tips from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYDEC). Here’s some information on protecting yourself from ticks. Many recommend treating hiking clothing and boots with Permethrin, available at hardware and outdoor stores. (Note, you need to spray clothes/boots when you are not wearing them, in advance of a hike.)
  • To open participation to all, patches and stickers are free. Donations to support Otsego Outdoors are welcome and appreciated.
  • Return your form to Otsego 2000, PO Box 1130, Cooperstown, NY 13326. or complete the online form. You will receive your patch and/or sticker within 3-4 weeks.
